Cyclone to dampen Diwali

A cyclonic depression that has formed near Andaman and Nicobar Islands is expected to hit south coastal Andhra Pradesh in next two days causing heavy rains across the state, dampening the Diwali festive spirit.
This will add to the sufferings of people of the coastal districts, who did not get respite from heavy rains on Tuesday. Hyderabad also saw intermittent showers. Until now, 20 people have died in the incessant rains with East Godavari and Visakhapatnam reporting six deaths each.
Though the depression is around 1,400 km away from the state coast, it might hit the southern coastal districts and parts of Tamil Nadu by November 5, said a meteorological department official.
