Senior BJP leader Bandaru Dattatreya has urged the government to immediately release a sum of Rs.1,000 crore to step up relief and rehabilitation measures in the cyclone-affected areas in the State. At a press conference on Sunday, he accused the government of acting tardily and failing to provide timely relief to cyclone-hit people.

The administration did not conduct cyclone-preparedness drills in any of the affected districts and was acting only after receiving information from the Indian Meteorological Department. Demanding that Chief Minister K. Rosaiah convene an all-party meeting to discuss relief measures, he warned that BJP would launch an agitation if the government failed to mitigate the suffering of cyclone victims.

The State executive of the party would meet here on November 13 and 14 to chalk out the details of the agitation. A BJP delegation met Mr. Rosaiah on Saturday and submitted a memorandum urging the government to take up relief measures on a war footing.
