Minister for municipal administration Anam Ramnarayan Reddy on Wednesday revealed that the damage in Nellore district due to incessant rains and the cyclonic storm Jal was estimated to be Rs. 103 crore.

He added that he had submitted a report to chief minister K Rosaiah about the extent of losses suffered in the district. The minister said that 41 rehabilitation centres were set up in 14 mandals, and that 13,600 people were sheltered and sent back after proper attention.

He said that fishermen also had lost their fishing boats and nets in the storm. The crop loss was not much, but crops were damaged considerably and the CM has ordered the agriculture department to make arrangements for supply of seeds to the farmers, he said. The heavy rains battered the roads and damaged the infrastructure mostly in all mandals.
