Protesting advocates held
The Kadapa police thwarted advocates' bid to stage hunger strike in front of Kadapa District Courts complex under the aegis of Joint Action Committee of Bar Associations on Friday by arresting 122 advocates who squatted in protest demanding establishment of a High Court Bench in Rayalaseema region.
The JAC members closed the main gates of Kadapa District Courts complex and demonstrated before it. Holding placards that read HC Bench in Rayalaseema is our right, they raised slogans. Several women advocates too participated in the hunger strike. Praja Rajyam district president B. Hariprasad, AIYF leader C. Subramanyam and others expressed solidarity to the advocates' demand, which was a long pending one.
JAC convenor M. Venkataswamy Reddy said the demand for HC Bench in Rayalaseema dated back to 1993. He called upon leaders of all the political parties to exert pressure on the Government to set up a High Court Bench in the region for the benefit of the litigant public and advocates.
