Jupalli ready for probe into project works
Civil Supplies Minister Jupalli Krishna Rao has offered to face any inquiry into charges levelled against him by Telugu Desam leaders that he is influencing the government to award the Kalwakurthy lift irrigation project works on nominations basis instead of through open tenders.
He said the project, taken up to irrigate about 2 lakh acres in Mahabubnagar district from Srisailam, had been awarded to Madhucon company in 2005 through EPC prescribing milestones.
The company, for which Nama Nageswara Rao, leader of the Telugu Desam parliamentary party, had failed not only to achieve the milestones but it could hardly complete 10-15 per cent of the project while the first pumpset of the other such lift schemes taken up in the same district like Bhima and Nettempadu were ready for operation.
He told reporters on Monday that instead of completing the project, the firm was seeking upward revision in the project cost on the ground that it had encountered some unforeseen problems during implementation.
