Congress MP from Vijayawada, Lagadapati Rajagopal, has said that Telangana region would get more than 50 per cent of the posts in the recruitment of Sub Inspectors notified by the Government. Terming the ongoing agitation by Telangana activists demanding postponement of the SI recruitment as totally uncalled for, the Congress MP said out of the 1,269 posts, Zone V and VI comprising Telangana districts would get 643 posts.

All the other four zones would get 626 posts, which was not commensurate with the population of Andhra and Rayalaseema regions. He dared the Telangana leaders to a debate on the issue and said the demand to amend Clause 14 (f) of the Presidential Order was not reasonable.

If an amendment is brought, it will only harm the candidates of the region, he said. Mr. Rajagopal was firm that the Government should go ahead with the recruitment and not succumb to political pressure.
