Autorickshaws to go off the roads from today
A majority of the 25-odd unions representing autorickshaw drivers have announced their decision to launch an indefinite strike in the twin cities from Tuesday midnight.
This followed the failure of talks between Transport Minister S. Vijayarama Raju and leaders of the autorickshaw drivers' unions at the Secretariat to resolve the demand to increase the minimum fare from Rs. 12 to Rs. 20. However, during and after the talks, the unions remained divided over the strike move.
A majority of them, led by Auto Parirakshana Porata Committee in which AITUC, IFTU, CITU, AADU, TG Auto Drivers' Joint Action Committee and Auto Owners' Association members, announced that they would go ahead with the strike.
