Andhra Pradesh Assembly Speaker Nallari Kiran Kumar Reddy was invited by AICC observers for consultations at the Lake View Guest House on Wednesday night before he was named by Pranab Mukherjee as the successor to K. Rosaiah as Chief Minister. Mr. Reddy alone will take oath today.

The name of Mr. Reddy was doing the rounds along with that of Union Minister for Urban Development S. Jaipal Reddy after Mr. Rosaiah announced his decision to quit. But, once Mr. Jaipal Reddy declared in New Delhi that he was not in the race and had no plans to come to Hyderabad, Mr. Kiran Kumar Reddy became the obvious choice.

Flanked by AICC observer Ghulam Nabi Azad and Mr. Rosaiah, Mr. Mukherjee announced Mr. Kiran Kumar Reddy's name before a large group of journalists who camped outside the Lake View Guest House.
