The State Congress leadership has started rallying its forces to counter the possible adverse impact of the resignation of Kadapa MP Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy and his mother, Y.S. Vijayamma, from their posts.

Several senior leaders held confabulations over the immediate impact of the resignations on the party even as Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy convened an emergency meeting of the available MLAs, MLCs, including former Ministers, to take stock of the situation.

While the resignation came as a surprise to many, incidents of attacks on the party offices and burning of effigies of Congress president Sonia Gandhi in some districts ruffled the party leadership.

Leaders who were closeted with Mr. Kiran Kumar Reddy were unanimous in condemning the insult to Ms. Gandhi by supporters of Mr. Jagan and warned them of serious consequences if such incidents continued.
