Opposition road blockade on Dec. 11

Opposition parties have decided to organise a blockade of all roads across the State on December 11, demanding remunerative price for paddy, pulses, groundnut, sugarcane and cotton. The decision was taken at an all-party meeting on problems faced by farmers, at the TDP office, here on Thursday. Party president N. Chandrababu Naidu, CPI (M) State secretary B. V. Raghavulu, CPI leader K. Ramakrishana and representatives of Lok Satta, CPI (ML) New Democracy, Forward Bloc and Revolutionary Socialist Party attended. Addressing a press conference later, they said farmers are in dire straits while the Government appears bogged down in political turmoil. The Jal' cyclone has hit the farmers hard as they lost large share of the crops they raised. Input costs have risen sharply but there is no commensurate rise in support price of farm produce.
