A brief winter session of the Legislative Assembly will be held from December 10. It is likely to conclude before December 18 since the plenary session of the AICC is scheduled to begin in New Delhi on that day. The dates for the session were decided at a meeting that Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy had with his Cabinet colleagues Anam Ramnarayan Reddy, Dharmana Prasada Rao, Botsa Satyanarayana and D. Sridhar Babu here on Friday.

Apart from finalising the agenda for the session, the Congress leadership has to appoint the new Speaker as the post has become vacant after the resignation of Mr. Kiran Kumar Reddy. This is no simple task since the party has to simultaneously finalise its candidates for the posts of Deputy Chief Minister and Pradesh Congress president.
