Governments should not ignore ryots- Lok Satta
A convention of farmers' representatives organised by Lok Satta Party here on Sunday had speakers regretting that successive governments did not stick to pre-poll promises on improving farming. Inaugurating the convention, which was represented by several farmers' organisations, LSP president Jayaprakash Narayan regretted that the Union and the States were only viewing farmers as mere robots designed to produce food for the teeming millions and not as human beings engaged in productive occupation for their livelihood and who contributed to the economy. He wondered why governments, which encouraged export of industrial goods, put their feet down on export of farm produce, even while denying remunerative prices for crops. If farmers remained united, no government could ignore them and their interests.
