CM to meet Sonia Gandhi today

Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy left for New Delhi on Monday to hold consultations with the Congress high command on finalising the party's nominee for the post of Assembly Speaker. He is scheduled to call on members of the Congress party's political affairs committee which is meeting today and brief them about the regional and caste considerations involved in the exercise.
Selection of the Speaker has assumed importance as the Assembly is slated to commence on December 10 and Mr. Reddy wants a full-time Speaker to be in place during the session. Given the various caste and regional combinations being worked out by the Congress, the choice of the candidate for the Speaker is most likely to fall on an MLA from coastal Andhra if the lobbying by Telangana leaders for the PCC chief's post succeeds.
