Finally, The State Assembly on Tuesday, started discussions on the issue of farmers hit by heavy rains and floods in the coastal regions, after the Telangana Rashtra Samithi MLAs were suspended and evacuated from the House, for continuing to protest against the issue of withdrawal of police cases against students. Nine MLAs of Telangana Rashtra Samiti were suspended from the session, on Tuesday, as they continued to disrupt the proceedings demanding unconditional withdrawal of cases filed against students during statehood agitations. As soon as the Assembly assembled in the morning, The legislators staged noisy protests, raised slogans and stormed into the Well of the House forcing a 15-minute adjournment.
Immediately, after the House re-assembled following the first 15-minute adjournment, the TRS members continued to remain on their feet. The party leaders were evicted from the House by marshals on the direction of Deputy Speaker Nadendla Manohar, who was in the Chair. The TRS legislators stormed the Speakers podium holding placards and raising slogans, demanding withdrawal of cases against students within a specified time frame. Home Minister P Sabitha Indra Reddy clarified that out of 8000 cases booked, not all were students.
However, She asserted that the future of the students & the government was ready to consider, study and scrutinise the cases. The House witnessed walkouts by the members of the TDP , BJP, CPI, CPM, while the Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) registered its protest, but did not resort to a walkout. 1412-059 The Telugu Desam Party ( TDP ) and the Praja Rajyam Party ( PRP ) members stalled the Assembly business demanding a discussion on the plight of farmers, forcing adjournment of the House for 15 minutes. , 1412-142 The TDP members said that the government was shying away from a discussion on the subject & PRP members too joined the issue.
1412-151 The TDP members stormed the Speaker's podium condemning the arrest of their party president N Chandrababu Naidu and MLAs on Monday, who were fighting for farmers. 1412-072 In respect of MIM's demand that cases booked against those involved in the Mecca Masjid blast be scrapped, Sabitha Indra Reddy said that those cases were also under study.
Speaking on farmers' plight, Naidu said that farmers were reeling under crop losses with paddy soaked in rain water due to non-stop rains for 5 days. He demanded that the crop losses in the flood-hit districts be declared as national calamity. The TDP chief demanded that the government make arrangements to buy rice and paddy, and also the discoloured rice from the hapless farmers.
Stating that Kerala and Karnataka had paid Rs. 200 per quintal as bonus to farmers, Naidu demanded that the farmers in Andhra Pradesh also get the same treatment. Even tenant farmers deserved to be paid compensation, he demanded. The TDP chief also demanded that the farmers should get the cover of crop insurance without fixing a limit. ,
Naidu pointed out that, As per government version, 10.75 lakh hectares crop was destroyed, and the crop was attacked by white disease which the government failed to control.
