Naidu to commence fast today

Describing the Government's relief package to farmers hit by the recent rains as meagre, TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu has decided to go ahead with his indefinite fast from today at New MLAs Quarters in the city from 8.30 a.m. The decision was taken at the TDLP meeting held soon after the Assembly adjourned for the day.
He is believed to have expressed disappointment at the Chief Minister, N. Kiran Kumar Reddy's response to the 23 demands put forward by him, the main one being input subsidy of Rs. 10,000 per acre for paddy. Announcing Mr. Naidu's decision to adopt a Gandhian protest, TDP leader Yerran Naidu said the Government's offer of hike in input subsidy of a mere Rs.600 per acre fell far too short of the expectations of farmers who were facing the worst-ever crisis in decades.
