Huge crowds throng to Maha Garjana in warangal

Telangana Rashtra Samithi president K. Chandrasekhar Rao appealed to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to note that the people of Telangana were losing patience and demanded that the Centre introduce the Bill on Telangana in the next session of Parliament. Addressing a massive gathering in warangal on Thursday, Mr Rao hinted that students and employees were eager to launch a violent struggle to secure statehood for the region. He wanted the Centre to implement its statement made on December 9 last year in letter and spirit.
Explaining how the separate Telangana movement began in 2001, Mr Chandrasekhar Rao said he condemned the statements made by Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan and Director General of Police K. Aravinda Rao. He said their statements ridiculed the aspirations and sacrifices being made by the people of the region. He advised them to prevail upon the Central Government by showing a realistic picture of the ongoing movement and help in formation of separate Telangana. Mr Rao appealed to the people not to get agitated and wanted them to be ready for another phase of struggle which might necessitate non-cooperation and stalling governance in the region.
Telangana students JAC leader P. Ravi said they were not ready for the Gandhian way of struggle but would launch a violent struggle after December 31. Students would bring the government to a grinding halt if the Centre goes back on its promise of initiating the process for separate Telangana. The sprawling grounds of the meeting venue resembled a sea of humanity as people continued to pour in from all corners even as the meeting reached a climax. There were reports of people getting stranded on the roads unable to proceed to the venue and vehicular traffic came to a standstill on the borders of Warangal district.
The meeting described as Maha Garjana' by the TRS was held to commemorate the first anniversary of Union Home Minister P Chidambaram's statement on initiating the process for separate Telangana. On the other hand Political JAC leader Prof Kodandaram accused certain sections of conspiring to stifle the ongoing separate Telangana movement. He warned that people would not keep quiet and instead launch a violent struggle to secure their genuine demand for a separate State.
