Telangana Congress leaders to meet Sonia
As the fate of the demand for separate a Telanagana State is likely to be known soon, when the Justice B.N. Srikrishna Committee presents its report, Congress leaders from Telanagana region have decided to present a memorandum to party president Sonia Gandhi here on Sunday seeking a Bill on the formation of the new State immediately.
The leaders, numbering about 200 and consisting of Union/State Ministers, MPs, MLAs, MLCs, former Ministers, AICC and APCC members hailing from various districts of the Telangana region, had a series of discussions at the residences of senior party leaders S. Jaipal Reddy, K. Kesava Rao and G. Venkatasamy before the memorandum was prepared.
The Congress had given promises in this regard in the run-up to the 2004 Lok Sabha poll and included the subject in the common minimum programme of the UPA-I.
