Home Minister P. Sabita Indra Reddy justified the arrest of Telugu Desam president N. Chandrababu Naidu and said the action became inevitable amid growing concern about his deteriorating health when he refused to give up his fast. Addressing a press conference on Monday, Ms. Sabita Reddy said there was no other motive behind Mr. Naidu's arrest than the government's concern about his health and to shift him to the hospital as per medical advice.

Urging Mr. Naidu to withdraw his fast, she suggested that he should instead focus his energy on ensuring that the best ever relief package announced by the government reached every affected farmer. She added, This is not the time to politicise the issue and every Opposition party should join government efforts to ensure the relief reached the farmers.
