Churches, cathedrals and chapels the state came alive with Christmas festivities on Saturday with devotees of all age groups turning up in groups to offer special prayers and receive blessings from priests.

The largest gathering in the state was reported from the world-famous Church of South India in Medak, where the faithful attended the early morning Mass. Rev T S Kanaka Prasad led the mass at the CSI. Christians in the city, too, thronged the churches right from the morning.

Carols were sung, many greetings were exchanged, and the mood was joyous all over. Foreign tourists in the city joined in all the gaiety. The festivities started in the intervening night of Friday and Saturday itself.
