Kiran goes on a surprise city visit

Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy sprang a New Year surprise when late Friday evening he revealed his intentions to visit Banjara Colony, a slum in the Hayathnagar suburbs. As official machinery scrambled into action, local leaders left no stone unturned in doing what they were best at: erecting banners welcoming the Chief Minister, of course making sure their photographs appeared alongside his.
Armed with brooms, GHMC workers surfaced in the area. And the streets were suddenly clean, bleaching powder sprinkled for the first time. This was the first time Chief Minister of the State was paying them a visit.
Leave alone their elected representatives, neither officials nor journalists ever visited them. In addition, he said, Rs.20 crore had been allocated for electric substations in LB Nagar . He also announced Rs.224-crore electrical works in Nagole.
