Another NTPC plant for State

The State will have another National Thermal Power Corporation plant in Visakhapatnam district generating 4,000 MW. Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy signed the file and cleared the government's concurrence for purchasing and availing 50 per cent of the power generated, by the proposed project at the tariff to be decided by the Central Electricity Regulatory Authority.
The project would be set up at a cost of Rs. 23,000 crore at Pudimadaka in Anakapalle mandal. Mr. Reddy discussed briefly the power supply position and new projects, particularly the Kakatiya Thermal Power Project near Bhupalpalli with Chief Secretary S. V. Prasad, APTransco CMD Ajay Jain, AP Genco Managing Director K. Vijayanand and Joint MD D. Prabhakar Rao.
The estimated cost of the project is Rs.2,960 crore, including interest during construction. Mr. Reddy said the Government's priority was put all the contemplated power projects in the State on a fast track so that the ever-increasing power demand was matched with the generation and supply.
