The last rites to the body of Gangula Suryanarayana Reddy alias Maddelacheruvu Suri, were performed at his family estate in Maddelacheruvu, a remote village in Anantapur district on Wednesday. Suri was buried besides the graves of his parents at the estate. Earlier, the body was brought in a procession from his house to the estate.

Thousands of people had visited the slain factionist leader's residence, to pay their last respect. The district headquarters Anantapur observed a bandh as a mark of sympathy to Suri. About 200 policemen had been deployed to ward off any untoward incidents in the towns including Dharmavaram and Penukonda regions, to supervise law and order.
