Kodandaram condemns curbs on media

Telangana Political JAC convenor M. Kodandaram has condemned the restrictions imposed by police on media as it hindered free flow of information, particularly police excesses on protestors in the Osmania University campus, and freedom of expression in a democracy.
Mr. Kodandaram told reporters in the Secretariat where he had gone in connection with lunch hour demonstration by Telangana Gazetted Officers Association on Friday, that unnecessary and undue restrictions on media were preventing facts from reaching public.
It was also giving rise to various rumours and speculations through false bulk SMS messages. Mr. Kodandaram alleged that the Thursday's incidents were the result of provocation by police. Some policemen in mufti resorted to stone pelting and instigated students and then resorted to lathi-charge.
