Pulse Polio Immunization: 96% target covered

About 96 per cent of the target children in the 0 to 5 years age group were covered in the Pulse Polio Immunisation drive carried out across the State on Sunday. The total number of children expected to be administered polio drops was 1 crore. Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy launched the exercise by administering polio drops to a few children at his camp office.
In all, 63,766 polio booths were set up in the State for the purpose and they were supported by 1,864 mobile teams for supply of polio vaccine vials. The State was also quick to react to the reports of death of a few children in Tamil Nadu allegedly after administering polio drops as Principal Secretary of Health P.V. Ramesh allayed any such fears in the State. Talking to mediapersons he said there were no such incidents ever in the State and the death of children in Tamil Nadu could be due to other health problems.
