Racchabanda starts on high and successful note

The much-hyped 'Rachchabanda' programme launched by the State government on Monday virtually turned chaotic, in the Telangana region. The ministers, legislators and officials faced the wrath of the pro Telangana protesters, who prevented them from conducting the same at various places. Police arrested several demonstrators, who staged agitations, after commencement of 'Rachabanda'.

Lets have a look on the report........ Chief Minister, Mr N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, formally inaugurated the ambitious programme in Rajam of Srikakulam district, on Monday morning. The government is all to distribute ration cards, pensions, allot houses, and sanction loans and other benefits, under various welfare schemes during this 20-Day programme. This will continue till 12 of February, next month. A total of Rs.2,500 crore has been set apart for the campaign.

2401-058 The government launched the public interactive programme aiming to take the administration to the people's doorsteps. Pro-Telangana activists disrupted the government's 'Racchabanda' programme in the region by preventing ministers, MP's, & other public representatives of the ruling Congress party. Demanding the tabling of the Telangana bill in parliament during the budget session, supporters disrupted the event in Hyderabad, Warangal, Karimnagar, Nizamabad and other places in the region.

Raising slogans of 'Jai Telangana', the protestors squatted on the roads and prevented ministers and MPs from participating in the programme. Reports of violent protests in many places were received wherein the agitators, especially the TRS activists, indulged in showering stones, eggs and chappals on people's representatives. The Telangana Rashtra Samiti, Bharatiya Janata Party, pro-Telangana leaders of the Telugu Desam Party , and other constituents of the Telangana Joint Action Committee (JAC) have called for a boycott of the programme.

They alleged that 'Racchabanda' was aimed at weakening the Telangana movement by luring people with various benefits. Police arrested dozens of TRS activists when they disrupted the programme attended by Minister for Tribal Welfare Basvaraj Saraiah and MP Rajaiah, in Warangal district. The protestors demanded that the government should not conduct the programme, till formation of a separate Telangana state.

2401-078 If we see in Karimnagar district, The Congress MP, Ponnam Prabhakar, has boycotted the programme. He left the venue in town, after adopting a resolution that the people of the region want a separate state and were not interested in any scheme. 2401-087 And, Minister Sridhar Babu had to face the wrath of pro-Telangana activists, in the district.

Police arrested 30 protestors at Amberpet in the City, when they tried to prevent local Congress leaders from attending 'Racchabanda'. The protestors also disrupted the programme attended by minister Shankar Rao at Secunderabad.
