The Lok Satta Party on Tuesday requested Chief Minister K. Rosaiah to scrap the Godavari drinking water project and take up Krishna phase-III scheme to meet the drinking water needs of the city. A delegation led by its president Jayaprakash Narayan met the Chief Minister in his chambers in Secretariat and explained that tapping Godavari at Yellampally for city's drinking water needs is risky, costly and time consuming. The Krishna phase-III scheme has a dependable water source in Nagarjunasagar and it could be executed fast with only a fraction of the cost of the Godavari scheme. The delegation drew the Chief Minister's attention to the Central government's offer to provide assistance for strengthening the Krishna river bunds and requested him to send a detailed project report for assistance.
