Plastic bags banned in Tirumala
As part of decision to discourage use of plastic bags in the State, government has totally banned their use in the hill shrine of Tirumala, visited by lakhs of pilgrims across the country. The ban will come into force within a month. No plastic bag irrespective of its thickness would be permitted in Tirumala. Even the laddu' and other prasadam now packed in plastic covers will be supplied in cloth, paper or jute bags. At present plastic covers of more than 20 micron thickness were permitted for use in the State, said Forest and Environment Minister P.Ramachandra Reddy on Tuesday.
