The Telugu Desam Party has expressed concern over the non-inclusion of Srikakulam district in the list of backward areas identified by the Union government. . According to Party leader Yerrannaidu, Srikakulam people are most backward and 61.4 per cent of them come under the below poverty line. Many of them are forced to migrate to other places in search of livelihood as the government has failed to provide them employment opportunities in the district. Mr. Yerrannaidu has dashed off a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh requesting him to include Srikakulam district in the list of backward areas so that it will get funds under the Backward Region Grant.
