Keen on national status for Indira Sagar: CM

Chief Minister N. Kirankumar Reddy on Thursday reiterated his government's commitment to secure national status to the Indira Sagar Project. Addressing a public meeting here after participating in Rachabanda programme, Mr. Reddy sought to steer clear of apprehensions among the people in the Andhra region on the fate of the project in the wake of strong opposition from the Telangana region.
Although certain `vested interests' were creating hurdles for the project, the government would overcome all those hiccups and strive for its early completion, he stated. "Nobody should think that it was a regional project confined to two or three coastal districts.
After all, it's a national project with a huge potential to irrigate around 30 lakh acres and contribute to the country's pool of foodgrains", he observed.
