National status for Pranahita soon: Kiran

* Centre has agreed in principle to accord national status, says Chief Minister
Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy on Saturday said that the Central government has agreed in principle to give national project status to the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Pranahita-Chevella Sujala Sravanthi. As estimates of this huge project are being worked out, the decision with regard to national status will be announced soon, he said.
Addressing a public meeting at this mandal headquarters village in Mudhole constituency, the Chief Minister said the Pranahita lift irrigation scheme would be highly beneficial for Adilabad as it envisaged irrigating over 1.5 lakh acres in the district.
Mr. Reddy also spoke of the Centre's acceptance of a proposal to lay a corridor of roads along the inter-State borders with Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh and Orissa. The proposal accepted by the National Security Council would cost Rs. 1,600 crore and consists of roads that bring inter-State connectivity. He exhorted the large number of women members of self-help groups not to give up education.
