State Congress Committee president D. Srinivas has said that Praja Rajyam chief K. Chiranjeevi, who announced merger, will have to abide by whatever decision the UPA government takes on the Telangana statehood issue. Hailing the merger, Mr. Srinivas assured all the PR legislators that, they would get the same respect and place in the party.

The PCC Chief said, he remarked that the Congress should have a tie up with the Praja Rajyam during the GHMC elections itself. He appealed to the Congress cadre to wholeheartedly welcome the merger announcement and work towards strengthening the party. He said it was not right to say that Mr. Chiranjeevi was roped in to the Congress to contain the impact of former MP Y. S. Jaganmohan Reddy's exit.
