The state government on Sunday issued orders to release, 108.19 crore for implementing loan waiver scheme for handloom weavers. The government had already announced waiver of all outstanding loans, taken by weavers and their cooperative societies before March 31st from commercial, cooperative and grameena banks, to carry on their profession.

The decision on loan waiver scheme was taken by the Chief Minister, Mr N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, during a review in December 2010. This would will be utilised for loan waiver scheme applicable to nearly 1.5 lakh families of handloom weavers, 450 primary handloom cooperative societies that took artisans loans.
