TRS postpones protest on weavers' issue

The Telangana Rashtra Samiti has postponed the blockade of NH-9 and Telananga bandh on February 9 and 10, respectively, on weavers' issues to March 9 and 10. Addressing a press conference on Monday, TRS president K. Chandrasekhar Rao stated that they had postpone the protests as the State government had released Rs. 109 crore out of Rs. 312 crore promised for bailing out weavers.
He was hopeful that the government would release the remaining amount by March 9 or else they would go ahead with the protest plans.
He urged the government to allocate Rs. 600 crore to handloom weavers in the next budget to resolve their problems and demanded setting up of Silk Board offices in Gadwal and Pochampally to provide raw silk to handloom weavers at subsidised rates as it was being supplied at Dharmavaram.
