Victims of police brutality petition SHRC
* Police caned them when they tried to obstruct Rachabanda' programme in Dubbaka mandal
Telangana Rashtra Samiti MP from Medak Vijayashanti on Thursday produced before the State Human Rights Commission, the persons who sustained severe bruises when they were beaten up by the police for obstructing Rachabanda' programme at villages in Dubbaka mandal of Medak district.
The villagers complained to the acting Chairman of State Human Rights Commission K. Peda Peri Reddy that the police refused to book cases in the matter. Mr. Reddy asked the Deputy Inspector General of Nizamabad Range to inquire and submit a report by February 21.
Talking to media persons later, the Telangana Rashtra Samiti MP said all those who faced the brutality of police were from weaker sections, even women were not spared. She said the injured were not even TRS activists. Apart from action against erring police officers, she demanded medical aid and payment of ex gratia to the injured. Former Dubbaka MLA S. Ramalinga Reddy was also present.
