Congress central leadership was finally able to defuse the crisis in the state unit over Telangana as it pursuaded legislators from the region to return to the city and attend the on-going assembly session.

A group of 20 Telangana legislators and six MLCs were camping in the national capital ove the last four days meeting senior Congress leaders to impress upon them to take a final call on statehood issue. The group met Home Minister P Chidambaram on Friday afternoon and held detailed discussions on the issue.

Though no firm reassurance was given to the legislators, Chidambaram promised to discuss the issue in the Congress Core Group. The Home Minister urged the legislators to not escalate the issue and try and push the high command to a corner.
