DGP warns that Railway Act will be invoked against those holding up trains

The Director General of Police, K. Aravinda Rao, said police patrols will be deployed for every two to three km of rail length in view of the likelihood of sabotage of tracks and tampering of signalling equipment during the rail roko' programme today.

Addressing a press conference, he warned agitators that provisions of the Railway Act for holding up rail traffic would be booked against those who obstructed the trains. Mr. Rao said the district police, railway police and the Railway Protection Force will jointly take up security arrangements for the rail roko.' He appealed to agitators to desist from acts of violence.

The focus of security would be important trunk lines covering Chennai, Delhi, Bangalore and Visakhapatnam. The trains were asked to travel at a speed of 50 to 75 kmph, against the normal 120 kmph. They will also observe look out' caution.
