EC announces poll dates for five states

The Election Commission on Tuesday announced elections in five state assemblies beginning on 4 April and will stretch till 10 May. The counting will take place on 13 May. The elections are crucial for the Congress and its allies in the United Progressive Alliance. Chief Election Commissioner S.Y Qureshi announced the schedule for elections in Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Ponducherry for 13 April, whereas West Bengal will have six phased elections beginning on 18 April. The counting of all state elections will be held on 13 May. This will be the first election non resident Indians can exercise their right to vote.
