A young housewife was brutally murdered, allegedly by her husband, on the busy road near Kalabharathi auditorium on Friday evening. Krishna Veni, who is pursuing engineering degree at a private college on the outskirts of the city, married a distant relative Ravi Kumar six months ago.

Krishna Veni's parents did not object to the marriage though Ravi Kumar was a car driver, as they wanted their daughter to continue her education, according to the victim's cousin Appala Pola Raju.. who suspects that Ravi Kumar had committed the murder, said the accused was given dowry at the time of the marriage.

On Friday evening, she alighted from the bus as usual at Maddilapalem junction and was walking alone towards her home when the accused approached her and allegedly slashed her throat with a knife. She collapsed on the ground and died instantaneously.

Police Commissioner J. Purnachandra Rao and other officials visited the spot. The police cordoned of the crime scene but had a tough time in keeping curious crowd at bay.
