Media faces Telangana heat
AA

* 30 television, still cameras thrown into lake or smashed on the road
* The crowd did not want to be identified while indulging in violence

The violence on Tank Bund road on Thursday afternoon took a heavy toll of the photography and videography equipment of print and electronic media which was covering the events. The incidents touched a crescendo when the digital satellite news gathering vehicle of ETV, which contains satellite linkage equipment for live coverage, was burnt to ashes. The crowd attacked the vehicle as soon as it halted on the Secretariat flyover to shoot the pulling down of Nannaya Bhattu statue. The vehicle was a few yards behind the statue.

The incident was a culmination of snatching of nearly 30 television and still cameras from the hands of media personnel and throwing them in Hussainsagar lake or smashing them on the road. The main reason for the anger was their perception that the media was ranged against Telangana. In some cases, the crowd did not want to be identified while indulging in the violence. As a result, the actual pulling down of statues was not captured by any of the print or electronic media crew.
