Rosaiah not for populist schemes

Chief Minister K. Rosaiah has said that he was not in favour of introducing populist schemes just for the purpose of leaving his stamp on them. Some of his friends had been suggesting to him to launch a couple of schemes which could be identified with him. He wished to reiterate what he had been telling them all along that he was opposed to the idea. The government would design programmes only if they were of use to public, the Chief Minister said in his maiden Independence Day speech after unfurling the tricolour here on the Parade Grounds.
Mr. Rosaiah said he was keen to ensure success of the programmes started by his predecessor Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy. The State plunged into crisis due to floods and regional conflicts for five months thereafter. In a bid to ensure proper implementation of the schemes initiated by YSR, he said a four-pronged policy was evolved to improve the basic form of schemes, check leakage, see that genuine beneficiaries were not deprived and redraw priorities based on availability of funds.
