Chief Minister, K. Rosaiah, said that the emergency 108 ambulance service is as successful as the Arogyasri scheme. Mr Rosaiah feels that the present service is a big contrast to the earlier service and works better. The CM said this while speaking at the function to celebrate five years since the 108 emergency ambulance service was launched. The service is a state government and GVK Emergency Management and Research Institute initiative.

The 108 model has already been replicated by 11 states, the latest being Chhattisgarh and Himachal Pradesh and is likely to expand to the rest of India by 2011. Observing that almost 80 per cent of total medical emergencies attended are in rural areas, the CM expressed his concern over the numerous vacant medical posts in rural areas.
