TDP demand for JLC on land allotment rejected
The State government on Monday rejected the TDP's demand for setting up a Joint Legislature Committee on the land allotment issue without a comprehensive debate in the Assembly. With the government and the main Opposition sticking to their stands, the stalemate in the Assembly continued for the fourth consecutive working day on Monday and the House was adjourned without transacting any business.
The much-awaited statement by Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy did not come through as placard-wielding and slogan-shouting TDP members stalled the proceedings. Intervening briefly, Minister for Major Industries J. Geeta Reddy ruled out the possibility of the JLC without any debate, pointing out that it was during the TDP regime that the land allotment began.
Enacting a familiar scene, about 20 TDP legislators rushed to the podium immediately after Deputy Speaker N. Manohar rejected the adjournment motions of the CPI, CPM and BJP on SC Sub-Plan and welfare of home guards.
