Elected representatives of local bodies Gram Panchayat, Mandal Parishad, Zilla Parishad, municipalities and municipal corporations will now be brought under the purview of the Lok Ayukta for being prosecuted if found guilty of irregularities and corruption.

Also, the government employees drawing scale a basic pay of below Rs. 7,400, including RDO, DSP, inspector, MRO, mandal development officer and those working in cooperative institutions and undertakings established under the Central Act too will also be brought under the Lok Ayukta's jurisdiction.

The Cabinet, at a meeting here on Tuesday, approved a draft Bill to amend the Lok Ayukta Act to introduce these changes. The Bill was proposed in the light of unending complaints against corruption by elected representatives and others to swindle funds while implementing welfare schemes. The Cabinet also ammended the piracy law to curb any illegal acts pertaining to the film industry.
