State to file SLP against Krishna Tribunal award

After elaborate consultations with leaders of political parties on Tuesday, the State government has finally decided to file a special leave petition in the Supreme Court against the Brijesh Kumar Tribunal award on Krishna waters and another petition with the tribunal itself, seeking rectification of the defects in the award on March 29.
Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy said that farmers in the three regions would be encouraged to file PILs in the Apex Court seeking justice by the Tribunal to their respective areas. Major Irrigation Minister P. Sudarshan Reddy told reporters later that K. Parasaran, former Additional Solicitor-General Harish Salve and G. Umapathi, both senior advocates in the Supreme Court, would appear for the State. He said the Opposition parties' suggestion that an all-party delegation meet the Prime Minister to seek his intervention was being considered favourably.
