Steep hike in power tariff from April 1
AA

Come April 1, middle class families in the State are set for a hike in their power bills. After a gap of over six years, power utilities have prepared grounds for a steep hike in power tariff charged on over 11 lakh families. The families consuming over 300 units a month will have to forthwith cough up 50 paise more for every unit they consume.

The AP Electricity Regulatory Commission has approved a proposal by the distribution companies to raise the per unit charge from existing Rs.5.50 to Rs.6 for consumption above 300 units. For households consuming over 500 units, each unit above the slab limit would attract a tariff of Rs.6.25 against Rs.6 and the total burden on the consumers on account of the new tariffs will work out to Rs.55 crore a year. There will, however, be no change in tariff for consumers below 200 units.
