on Monday formally requested Income Tax officials to investigate the source of the Rs. 4.95 lakh that was seized by personnel manning the TP Kunta check-post in Gopavaram mandal near Badvel in the Kadapa district late on Sunday night.

According to Budvel Inspector K Ullafaiah, the cash was being transported in a car which was stopped and checked by the police personnel at the check-post. The car was being driven by a doctor, identified as Muralidhar, who was heading towards Wanaparthy from Nellore.

Earlier on April 12, police personnel seized around Rs. 55 lakh in cash from a man who is suspected to be close to an MLA from Nellore. A day earlier, another car searched at the Pipikunta check-post in Gopavaram mandal had yielded cash amounting to Rs. 28 lakhs.
