Seven villagers of Gannavaram were reportedly killed in Chinthapally mandal of Visakhapatnam district and about 15 others were injured yesterday. The incident occured, when a van in which they were travelling fell into a stream near Kadasilpa under Kothapalem Panchayat around 9.30 p.m.

on Monday. According to reports, around 40 villagers of Gannavaram were returning from Chintapalli after receiving housing scheme payment when the accident happened. The van in which they were travelling crossed a bridge but as the gear did not get engaged it rolled backwards, fell into the stream and overturned.

Seven persons died on the spot and the injured were brought to the CHC at Chintapalli for treatment. Many of them had reportedly received serious injuries. Some more were reportedly trapped in the overturned van.
