Extensive damage to standing crops

Standing crops spread in over 1.10 lakh hectares have been damaged due to the unseasonable rain in over the past two days. According to preliminary assessment of the losses, the Khammam district administration has estimated the loss incurred by the farmers, due to the untimely rain.
The chilli farmers were the worst-hit as they suffered huge losses under the impact of the nature's fury. Responding to the pleas from the farmers, the district collector assured them that paddy purchase centre would be set up to buy their damaged paddy at prescribed minimum support price. He instructed the officials concerned to make arrangements to this effect immediately.
