Government revises old age pension rules

Union cabinet today revised the old age pension rules by lowering the age of those, who can avail old age pension from 65 years to 60 years and increases the allowance from Rs 200 to Rs 500 a month.
After the Cabinet meeting Ambika Soni, Minister for Information and Broadcasting addressing newspersons said, that the cabinet gave its approval on the lowering the age limit for the Indira Gandhi Old Age pension scheme from 65years to 60 years, it has also approved that the rate of the pension be increased.

On the other side, the Cabinet also approved extension of medical facilities to beedi workers under the Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana. The beedi workers and their family will be covered and the total sum insured would Rs.30, 000. The State Governments will identify and register beedi workers.
