Tension prevailed in Chitoor District early this morning, as a herd of around two dozen elephants created havoc by entering into the village. The tuskers went on a rampage strayed into farmland damaging crops and houses in Kuppam mandal.
The tuskers had strayed into the State from Karnataka through the Gudupalle-Kuppam route. Shocked by the sight of the prowling pachyderms, the villagers stayed indoors after alerting the forest officials. But the villagers alleged that the officials did not respond to the queries and vent their concern.
